British Petroleum Oil Spill - YOUR LOST INCOME & OTHER ECONOMIC LOSS
On April 20, 2010 the Transocean rig Deepwater Horizon exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimates, the well is leaking about 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons) of oil per day. At that rate, the volume of the spill would exceed Alaska's Exxon Valdez accident by the third week in June. The damage to the Gulf, our enviroment and seafood and tourism industry grows almost exponentially daily.
BP, the owner of the leaking Gulf of Mexico Macondo well, is responsible under law and in fact for economic and other damages relating to this disaster pursuant to the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and other laws. Damages which are its responsibility include, but are not limited to, the Cost of Cleaning Up the Spill and damages to the Natural Resources, Real and Personal Property, Subsistence Use, Revenues, Profits and Earning Capacity and Public Services.
However other companies involved that should also accept responsibility for this disaster include:
Transocean –the actual owner of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig leased by BP
Halliburton Energy Services – involved in cementing the well and the well cap
Cameron International – the supplier of the Deepwater Horizon’s blowout prevention equipment that failed.
Fishing Guides, Commercial Fishermen, Tour Guides, Tourist Hotels, Condominium Owners, Fish Processors, Cannery Operators, Seafood Restaurants, their Laid Off Employees and anyone who depends on a clean environment will suffer. Some have even already lost their livelihood.
So long as there is oil related damage to any real estate or personal property, any person or business can recover for related loss of profits and other economic loss. You do not have to own the oil damaged property to pursue your economic loss claim.
If your or your business is suffering lost income or other economic loss as a result of the BP Oil Spill, or if your property was damaged or you have any questions, please contact Thompson, Crawford Smiley at 1-850-386-5777.
